Ready to Shape the Future of Technology?
Imagine a role where you don’t just watch technological advancements unfold—you’re right in the thick of it, driving innovation that has the power to change the world. As an Investment Manager in the Ventures Team at Cambridge Enterprise, you'll have the unique opportunity to discover, develop, and fund the next generation of tech startups. If you're passionate about making a difference, this is the role for you.
Why you will love this role:
You’ll be at the forefront of sourcing and developing emerging software and deep tech companies, particularly within the Schools of Physical Science and Technology. From day one, you’ll be working independently to identify promising opportunities, building relationships with brilliant academics, and supporting them in bringing their ideas to life.
You’ll be deeply involved in every stage of the investment process—from deal generation, running due diligence, to closing financing rounds. Your work will directly contribute to the growth of ventures that could become the next big thing in technology, all while being part of a world-class investment team.
We’re in the business of category creation, so you will be making a real impact, helping to advance technology that could change the world for the better.
This is a collaborative role. You will manage at least one member of staff, and work with the wider Ventures Team to advance opportunities up to £1M to investment committee and make pre-seed investment decisions up to £150k.
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience in investment management, preferably in the software or deep tech sectors.
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with academic and entrepreneurial communities.
- Expertise in evaluating and qualifying deal flow within a high-tech environment.
- A knack for conducting thorough due diligence, including technology and market analysis.
- Experience in preparing and presenting investment cases to committees or boards.
- Solid negotiation skills to close deals effectively.
- A proactive approach to supporting companies through their growth stages, including future funding rounds.
- Ability to represent the University at board meetings as a Director or Observer.
- Strong networking skills to connect portfolio companies with commercial talent and additional capital.
- Understanding of legal documentation and compliance, particularly in investment-related contexts.
Nice to have:
- Experience working within or alongside academic institutions.
- Familiarity with the Cambridge ecosystem and its unique business landscape.
Diversity and equality matter:
These are our ideal requirements, but we know some people are less likely to apply for the role unless they are 100% qualified. At Cambridge Enterprise, we promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture, so please apply if you meet the majority of the job requirements.
If you have any questions about the interview process, or if you need any reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to contact Ian, Gemma or Michelle at people@enterprise.cam.ac.uk
