West Cambridge & Addenbrookes | £39,355 - £44,128 pa | Permanent, full-time | Hybrid 3 days in office
Ready to develop your career in venture investment and drive scientific breakthroughs?
Why you will love this role:
Imagine yourself as a member of a dynamic investment team, playing a vital role in sourcing, structuring, and closing deals that transform scientific discoveries into thriving companies. You'll have the opportunity to leverage your expertise to conduct in-depth due diligence, build compelling investment cases, and mentor founding teams. This is a chance to make a significant contribution to the growth of the Cambridge ecosystem and to shape the future of technology, with the support of a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation. You will be empowered to take on increased responsibility and further develop your expertise in venture capital.
In this key role, you will be instrumental in identifying, evaluating, and shaping high-potential technology companies emerging from the University of Cambridge's School of Biological Sciences and School of Clinical Medicine. One of the key ways you’ll do this is by working from the Addenbrookes campus on a regular basis, and by attending Cambridge-based networking events (these are often held in the evening).
If you have a proven track record in venture capital or a related field and are passionate about translating cutting-edge science into impactful businesses, we encourage you to apply.
What we're looking for:
- A proven technical background with a degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field).
- Substantial experience in venture capital, investment banking, or a related field.
- A strong understanding of technology commercialisation and the investment process.
- Proven ability to conduct thorough due diligence and financial analysis to a high standard.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A proactive and strategic approach to identifying and evaluating investment opportunities.
- A collaborative and inclusive work ethic.
- Demonstrable drive, with the ability to identify what needs to be done and complete in a timely manner.
Nice to have:
-
• A PhD or advanced degree in a relevant scientific or business-related field.
• Extensive experience in structuring and negotiating investment deals.
• A strong network of contacts within the venture capital and scientific communities.
• Experience in mentoring or advising early-stage companies.
• Experience of working in a team to assess investment opportunities and present to investment committees.
Diversity and equality matter:
These are our ideal requirements, but we know some people are less likely to apply for the role unless they check every single box. At Cambridge Enterprise, we promote a diverse, inclusive and empowering culture, so if you feel you have most of the skills and experience needed, we’d love to hear from you.
If you have any questions about the interview process, or if you need any reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to contact Ian, Michelle or Sofia at people@enterprise.cam.ac.uk
